As James Brown said, “Get on the Good Foot!”
I believe that fueling our day through healthy food is getting on the good foot.
Look at the word, “breakfast.” I read, “break” “fast.” The first meal of the day is to break the fast that you begin after dinner and while you are asleep. Providing your body with nutritional essentials is imperative for a Warrior’s mind, body, and spirit. Mind, because a Warrior is unable to function at their highest mental capacity without healthy food, thus being sluggish, not processing properly, and sometimes getting frustrated. Body, because a Warrior’s body requires physical substance to heal, prepare, and function. Spirit, because when one is not feeling healthy/well, it can dampen a Warrior’s spirits.
Breakfast does not need to be a full, sit down meal (unless one would like to). It can be something quick and/or easy to take with you. One of my favorite selections for breakfast is a fruit/veggie smoothie and a bottle of water.
Water because it is essentials as it “wakes” up one’s organs and body plus one hasn’t had water since before they went to sleep. Hydration equals functionality. Fruit/veggie smoothie because it is easy to bring on-the-go, it has essential nutrients, and it is delicious.
For the smoothie greatness seen above, one will need:
- Coconut water or coconut milk (liquid base)
- Spinach (use as much to fill 1/3 of the container)
- 2 stalks of celery
- Chopped bananas and strawberries (use as much to fill 1/3 of the container)
- Chia seeds or hemp seeds (~1/4 cup)
- Coconut (optional)
Note: The fruit and veggies should be fresh or frozen without added sugars or other additives. Additionally, I don’t measure the ingredients with measuring cups. I use the container for measurement. For example, the spinach will take up about 1/3 of the container.
Chia seeds and hemp seeds provide a natural source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and fiber. Spinach provides protein, iron, vitamins & minerals for strong bones, hair and nails. Celery has high water content and provides calcium, magnesium, folate, potassium, and fiber. Bananas provide potassium, manganese, and vitamin C. Coconut water provides natural electrolytes, sodium, and phosphorus. Coconut milk is full of B vitamins, vitamin C and fiber. Coconut provides vitamin A and E. Plus, all of these things are delicious!!
Adding fruit to one’s bottle of water helps with the taste which may help one drink more.
Breakfast is doable! It just takes preparation, determinations, and action. Take the time to prepare the ingredients the day before and blend it in the morning. Or make it the night before! Love your mind, body, and spirit by caring for YOU.
Happy Fueling, Warriors!
